In this chapter called "The Defiant One", Dave experiences what it feels like to be wrongly accused and then ultimately betrayed. After his friend, John, a gang leader, regrets creating a fire in a classroom, he flees the scene and Dave, a new member of the gang, is left there trying to put out the flames. Even though he stayed in the classroom to extinguish the flames, he is accused of starting the fire. In the midst of all of the commotion, Dave flees to John's house and confronts John by saying, "'I put out the fire! you tell' em the truth!'" (Pelzer 182). It is later revealed that John betrayed Dave in his moment of need and didn't clear up Dave's name. In fact, he made it worse for Dave by claiming that Dave began the classroom fire.
Remember that one post about the breaking point a while back? Well I have another story for ya'll's about me and group projects. To recap, I get extremely irritated whenever someone slacks or freeloads for the benefit of only themselves. I mean like come on, it's a GROUP project. Like literally, please. Sorry, I got sidetracked. Okay, well, I usually take charge in groups and I place a high trust on all of the members to perform their tasks in order to equally share the responsibilities; but when that trust is broken, OH MY, stuff gets real. How does this even relate to betrayal? Well be patient my young grasshopper. Moving on, I trusted them to do their part, to carry their own weight, but nooooooooooooooooooo. They slack off and I end up with the short side on the stick. Thanks for betraying my trust and emphasizing who I don't work well with. Tell me what you guys think! Write about anything that crosses your mind. Ideas, insight, or a time you felt betrayed. Thanks for reading and come back next week to read about what goes through the mind of Julia.
